Tobacco Use Prevention

Northwest Iowa ASH: action on smoking and health is a four county partnership funded by a grant from the Iowa Department of Public Health division of tobacco use and control. The four counties include Sioux, Lyon, O’Brien and Osceola.

ASH has four goals:

  1. Preventing kids from smoking. This includes working to ensure all kids are exposed to anti-tobacco curriculum in school. It also includes JEL: Just Eliminate Lies, a teen anti-tobacco club.
  2. Helping smokers quit. ASH works with communities and businesses to provide Freedom From Smoking classes to assist with cessation. We also have a teen cessation class called ASCENT that we bring to schools upon request.
  3. Decreasing exposure to second-hand smoke. ASH prints a smoke-free dining guide for the four county region.
  4. Reaching disparate populations such as those who do not speak English and parents of young children.

To promote and protect the health of Sioux County, we are committed to stop tobacco abuse because tobacco kills.
